  • ‘El Mencho’ killed in Mexico. Who was the notorious cartel leader?

After spending years evading authorities worldwide, a powerful Mexican cartel leaderwas killed during a military operation, Mexican officials announced on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, commonly known as “El Mencho,” rose through the ranks and launched a deadly coup to become the leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). The criminal enterprise rapidly grew into a continent-spanning empire that rivaled its former allies in the Sinaloa Cartel, run by kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who is serving life in prison.

In 2024, the U.S. Department of State offered a $15 million reward for information leading to Oseguera’s arrest and/or conviction. After reports of his death surfaced, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau described “El Mencho” in a social media post as “one of the bloodiest and most ruthless drug kingpins.”

Here’s what to know about the Mexican drug lord:

    What was his real name?

He was born Rubén Oseguera Cervantes on July 17, 1966, in the small farming city of Aguililla in the western state of Michoacán, according to The Courier Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network. He later adopted the name Nemesio, some say to honor his godfather. It was shortened to “El Mencho” and has no other known meaning.

Why was ‘El Mencho’ so dangerous?

A powerful drug kingpin with 5,000 members spread across every continent except Antarctica, Oseguera’s brutal cartel is blamed for kidnappings, torture, murders, cannibalism, and the spread of fentanyl — which surpassed heroin as America’s deadliest illicit drug.

“More recently, CJNG operatives, allegedly under Oseguera Cervantes’ direction, were involved in assassination attempts of Mexican government officials,” the State Department said in December 2024.Targeting ‘The Last Frontier’: Mexican cartels send drugs into Alaska, upping death toll

How did ‘El Mencho’ rise to power?

Unlike some cartel leaders who inherited leadership positions from family dynasties, his parents were farm workers who carved out a living in Aguililla, a city of fewer than 20,000 people in Michoacán, known as the world’s avocado capital. Oseguera dropped out of school after the sixth grade to pick avocados.

“El Mencho” eventually made his way to Tijuana, the prominent border town for American tourists and feuding Mexican cartels. There, he grew his drug-smuggling business in San Diego. Court and prison records show he has entered the United States at least three times and was repeatedly deported.

After being ordered to leave the area by another organization, “El Mencho” joined the police force in Tomatlán, a small city south of Puerto Vallarta in the western state of Jalisco.

Eventually, Oseguera returned to his native Michoacán, where he joined the Milenio Cartel, an entrenched criminal organization operating since at least the early 1990s. Milenio eventually tapped “El Mencho,” a skilled sicario — or assassin — to lead one of its cells in Guadalajara as a cartel lieutenant.

U.S. drug agents and Mexican authorities teamed to root out El Mencho’s hiding spots at least three times. Police raided his secret compounds in 2012 and 2018, but he escaped, the newspaper reported.

According to the Courier Journal, the Mexican military also learned Oseguera’s hiding spot and headed to get him in two military helicopters in May 2015. But his men shot down one of the helicopters with a Russian-made rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

  • Expert Reveals Chilling Reason Nick Reiner Smirked After Parents’ Murder

Nick Reiner may have experienced a moment of elation while eerily smirking during his arraignment at a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Monday.

Body language expert Susan Constantine exclusively spoke with Page Six after Nickpleaded not guilty in connection to the stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

“There is a really interesting smirk where his head goes down and then he smiles,” Constantine said, adding that he was “trying to conceal his emotions” by tilting his head downward.

Body language expert Susan Constantine spoke with Page Six about Nick’s showing.

“‘Duper’s delight’ is when a person gets a sense or rush or enjoyment,” she said. “You will see that it’s almost like a sinister smile and it kind of leaks out at the most inappropriate moments.”

Constantine believes Nick was exhibiting a “form of enjoyment” in that moment, but that he was also trying to hide his emotions.

“It was an unconscious smirk of a sense of enjoyment or elation or excitement,” she said.

Once Nick became “consciously aware” that he was smirking, Constantine said he quickly “changed his behavior.”

Constantine, whose book “How to Spot a Liar in 7 Seconds or Less” will be released in 2027, also speculated that the “pulsating” in Nick’s jawline and the lines on his forehead reveal that there is “a lot of tenseness.”

“His forehead shows a lot of worry,” she said. “His eyes show paranoia and fear — high levels of it. An intensity level of it.”

As Page Six previously reported from Nick’, 32, ‘s arraignment, where he was seen on camera wearing a brown jumpsuit and had his hands shackled during Monday’s arraignment.

The hearing marked the first time Nick was seen in the Los Angeles courtroom. The “Being Charlie” screenwriter had sunken eyes and a shaved head.

He sat with a stoic expression alongside his attorney, public defender Kimberly Greene.

The judge asked if he was willing to waive his rights to a speedy preliminary hearing, to which Nick replied, “Yes.”

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29.

Nick, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders after his parents were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on Dec. 14, 2025. Rob was 78 and Michele was 70.

According to the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office, the “When Harry Met Sally” director and Michele died from “multiple sharp force injuries.” Their death was ruled a homicide.

Nick appeared in court that month wearing a suicide prevention smock, though he wasn’t wearing one during his second hearing in January.

However, a close friend of Rob told Page Six that Nick and his parents were getting along great just weeks before their tragic deaths.

Nick has been in and out of rehab for drug addiction and was diagnosed with schizophrenia before his parents died.

Nick’s siblings, Romy Reiner and Jake Reiner, have kept a low profile, though they have been slowly returning to normal life after losing their beloved parents.

  • Mike Feldman makes tearful visit to Today crew amid emotional moment for Savannah Guthrie

Amid the frantic search for her mother, Savannah Guthrie’s husband, Mike Feldman, quietly paid a visit to “Today” to show her colleagues their appreciation for the outpouring of support.

We’re told that since Nancy Guthrie went missing from her home nearly a month ago, Savannah’s family has been blown away by the love from her colleagues at NBC.

“From the top of the company to the bottom – it’s gone beyond just a workplace,” a source close to Savannah told Page Six.

They added Savannah’s colleagues have been asking, “‘Can we send clothes, arrange for food? Can we take the kids? [Can we] create a distraction at a moment that helps them manage through this as a family?’ The love is real.”

Feldman visited “Today” about two weeks ago and an insider, who was present, described the meeting as “very emotional.” “There were a lot of tears.” they said.

They added he was there on behalf of his wife to simply thank them. Savannah’s family has been isolated, mainly interacting with each other and law enforcement, so, “it was great for him to look everyone in the eye and vice versa.”

“It was a large group and he went around and thanked everyone, and got a bunch of hugs,” the insider said. “This is an extension of their family, and never more so than now. They’re more than coworkers. The tears were real, and [the colleagues] are struggling too.”

The first source told us Savannah’s, “not in a position to respond to anyone right now because it’s too overwhelming, but she’s seeing the messages, and hears the prayers.”

Meanwhile, Feldman has been traveling back and forth from New York to Arizona, where Savannah is with her family, as the search for Nancy, who went missing on Feb.1, continues. Savannah continues to be off from the “Today” show and her former co-anchor Hoda Kotb has been filling in. Sources told us a return to work is the furthest thing from Savannah’s mind at the moment.

Savannah last addressed the public in a video she posted on Feb 15, where she made a plea for her mom’s kidnappers to “do the right thing… it’s never too late,” she said. In the meantime, “the family’s never prayed as much,” the first source said. “She’s the chief faith officer in the family, and [the faith is] strong as ever.”

Ethan Hawke candidly made a cheeky sex confession while answering whether or not it’s “bad to eat in bed.”

“Incredibly vulgar things are going through my brain right now,” the “Training Day” star told British Vogue and British GQ in an interview published on Monday.

“I like to eat in bed, but I don’t eat food.”

Hawke, 55, then laughed and rubbed his beard before moving on to the next question.

The actor married Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, and the couple shares kids, Clementine Jean and Indiana.

Hawke was also previously wed to Uma Thurman from 1998 to 2005.

The exes, who met while filming the 1997 movie “Gattaca,” are the parents of Maya Hawke and Levon Roan.

They split amid rumors that the “Before Sunrise” star was having an affair with Shawhughes, their nanny, which he has denied.

Hawke has briefly opened up about divorcing Thurman and remarrying during an interview with the New York Times in November.

Ethan Hawke and Ryan Hawke attend the AFI Awards.
The actor is wed to Ryan Shawhughes.

“The public eye is like gasoline, but what makes divorce hard is the stuff that makes it hard for everyone — the family elements, how to help the kids through it,” he said at the time.

“I’m so envious of people who have amicable splits,” Hawke continued, adding that he would not comment on it further after he “vowed to [his] kids” not to publicly discuss it.

“When I split up I was hellbent on not having any more kids and I wanted to be single for the rest of my life. But then I made a best friend and I liked kissing her,” he said of his wife, Shawhughes.

Additionally, the “Before Sunset” star referred to his divorce from Thurman as “humiliating,”during an interview with GQ UK in September.

Thurman, meanwhile, later moved on with Arpad Busson from 2007 to 2014, and they welcomed a daughter, Luna, together.

She was last romantically linked to Bloomberg CEO Justin B. Smith in 2021.

  • Pima County Sheriff Says ‘Mixed’ DNA Found at Nancy Guthrie’s Home Presents Lab ‘Challenges’

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is detailing the latest challenge in the ongoing search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom, Nancy Guthrie.

“Our lab tells us there’s challenges with it,” Nanos told NBC News correspondent

According to the law enforcement officer, having “mixed” DNA means the sample contains DNA from more than one person, making it difficult to run through national databases.

“The technology is moving so fast and it’s such a frenzy that they think some of this stuff will resolve itself just in a matter of weeks, months or maybe a year,” Nanos continued.

“Investigators are working to identify who it belongs to,” a statement shared with multiple media outlets read at the time. “We are not disclosing where that DNA was located.”

Nancy was first reported missing on February 1 after the 84-year-old failed to meet up with friends to attend a virtual church service. Authorities have not identified a person of interest or suspect in the matriarch’s ongoing disappearance, though investigators did rule out Savannah, her brother Camron, her sister Annie and their family members as possible suspects.

“Not one single person in the family is a suspect,” Nanos told KOLD 12 News on February 16. “So I am telling everyone, effective today, you guys [media] need to knock it off, quit. People are hurting. They are victims. I am saying they are clear. We have cleared them.”

On February 12, the FBI released an official description of a potential subject in the case after security camera footage showed a masked individual attempting to disable Nancy’s front door camera.

The subject is “a male, approximately 5’9’’ – 5’10’’ tall, with an average build. In [a newly-obtained security] video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.” Officials confirmed they had received 12,000 tips from the public related to Nancy’s disappearance and were doubling the reward from $50,000 to $100,000 for any information that results in her rescue or recovery.

On Friday, Nanos admitted that the investigation is “not going fast enough.”

“It’s never fast enough for the sheriff,” he said. “I want it like you — come on guys, let’s go, let’s go, let’s find her. But the reality is that I also know that sometimes things take time.”

Despite Nanos admitting that there are “no names” authorities are currently looking into in connection with Nancy’s disappearance, he believes that they’re “getting closer” to finding her and her alleged kidnappers.

“In terms of leads and working and getting out there, I think that [the investigation] is still growing, yeah,” he explained. “I think we’re getting closer to identifying some of the other articles, not just that backpack — like the shoes, the pants, the shirt or jacket.”

When asked if he had a message for Nancy’s family as authorities continue their search, Nanos said: “We’re not quitting. We will find her. Yeah.”

  • BAFTA Ceremony Interrupted When Tourette’s Campaigner Shouts The N-Word While Michael B Jordan & Delroy Lindo Were Presenting

The BAFTA ceremony was interrupted when a Tourette’s campaigner shouted the n-word while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting. The unexpected moment unfolded live during the 2026 awards show and instantly shifted the room’s energy. What began as a standard presentation quickly turned tense as the outburst echoed through the venue.

John Davidson, a public advocate who lives with Tourette’s syndrome, experienced a series of involuntary vocal tics during the event. One of those tics included the n-word as Jordan and Lindo stood center stage. According to the ceremony host, the language was a symptom of Davidson’s medical condition and not intentional. An apology was issued shortly after the interruption.

Still, the impact was immediate. Hearing the n-word in a packed awards theater while two Black actors were presenting created visible discomfort. Although context was provided quickly, the shock of the word could not be undone in that moment.

Organizers had reportedly informed attendees that vocal disruptions were possible due to Davidson’s condition. However, preparation did not prevent the intensity of the situation once the word was spoken aloud. Social media reactions began surfacing almost instantly as viewers tried to process what they witnessed.

Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo continued their presentation without addressing the interruption publicly.

  • Did Jack Hughes Lose a Tooth in the Olympics? How He Lost His Front Teeth

Jack Hughes helped Team USA clinch the gold medal against Team Canada in the final game of the 2026 Winter Olympics. The NHL star scored the winning goal of the game despite having his front teeth knocked out. With blood still visible from his top gums, Jack proved to the world what dedication really means to him. So, how exactly did he lose a tooth — or more — in the final game?

Here’s a breakdown of how it all happened for Jack during the final hockey game of the Olympics.

How Many Teeth Did Jack Hughes Lose in the Olympics?

It appeared that Jack’s two front teeth were gone by the end of the USA vs. Canada game. Earlier in the game, the New Jersey Devils player actually wound up in the penalty box before his epic winning goal.

“I pictured myself on Barstool being the guy that America hates because Canada scores on the power play,” Jack said while reflecting on the moment, according to Yahoo! Sports. “I was like, Oh my God, here it comes

  • Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio both shockingly lose at BAFTAs

    Sunday’s BAFTAs were pretty baffling.

Especially if your name is Timothée Chalamet.

In the past, Britain’s awards show honoring the year’s movies has proved an excellent predictor of the eventual Best Actor Oscar winner.

Ten of the last 11 victors in London have gone on to take home the Academy Award in LA. (Sorry, Austin Butler).

Timothée Chalamet is still narrowly in the lead to win the Oscar in March, but his loss Sunday shows he’s weaker than once thought.

But this weekend, for the first time since Jamie Bell pirouetted to the podium for playing the title role in “Billy Elliot” in 2001, an actor not even nominated at March’s Oscars triumphed in the category — 33-year-old Englishman Robert Aramayo of “I Swear.”

Never heard of it? That’s because “I Swear” has not yet been released in the United States or anywhere outside of the United Kingdom for that matter.

Chalamet, always the bridesmaid, is still narrowly in the lead for “Marty Supreme,” having so far notched the Critics Choice and Golden Globe awards.

Leonardo DiCaprio on the red carpet at the EE BAFTA Film Awards.
Leonardo DiCaprio was another loser at the award show in London.

But, considering 25% of academy voters live overseas — with significant BAFTA overlap — his loss Sunday shows he’s weaker than was once thought.

Perhaps the international contingency could sway toward Leonardo DiCaprio of BAFTA Best Film winner “One Battle After Another,” Michael B. Jordan of “Sinners” or Brazil’s Wagner Moura of “The Secret Agent.”

Chalamet sure could use the momentum from an Actor (SAG) Award win next weekend. That’s what ultimately propelled Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) to knock out Butler (“Elvis”) in 2023.

However Chalamet won at SAG last year for “A Complete Unknown,” and no man has ever taken the top prize there twice in a row.

Michael B. Jordan poses on the red carpet at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) in London.

There were more gasps across the pond.

Another Brit, Wunmi Mosaku of “Sinners,” won Best Supporting Actress — her first major award of the season. Until now, Teyana Taylor (“One Battle”) and Amy Madigan (“Weapons”) had been duking it out to the finish line. For the next three weeks, though, it’s a three-way tussle.

And Sean Penn from “One Battle,” who had been passed over for months for co-star Benicio del Toro and Stellan Skarsgård of “Sentimental Value,” finally heard his name called. So, that’s another tight fight.

What’s 99% certain? Incandescent Irish actress Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”), who won Best Actress, will likely win the Oscar, too. Her closest competitor Rose Byrne’s indie “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” is too weird and divisive.

  • President Trump Is Ready to Move on From Nancy Guthrie Investigation and Focus on ‘Other Subjects’

President Donald Trump seems to have Nancy Guthrie fatigue as the search for the missing woman continues nearly three weeks after her disappearance.

According to the New York Post, Trump, 79, told reporters on Thursday, February 19, “We have to start reporting on other subjects also and see what happens. It’s a very sad situation.”

He went on to criticize the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI for openly discussing their search tactics.

A source told the outlet that Ferguson actually had already spent extended time there after Christmas until the end of January.

‘She always feels at home at Paracelsus, and knows she’ll get love and attention there, as well as expert health treatment when she’s feeling at her most vulnerable,” the source said.

A rep for Ferguson didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Ferguson’s ex-husband, the former Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on Feb. 19 — his 66th birthday. He was questioned for 11 hours at a police station before he was released.

Ferguson has stood by Andrew amid the Epstein scandal though the two, pictured here holding hands in July 1989 at the Montreal Botanical Gardens, have been divorced since 1996.

“They may want to ask her some questions. While Sarah Ferguson would not have been in a public office at that time, I don’t know what she knows, and if she has disclosed anything (in emails consistent with her role as an ex-royal and Andrew’s ex-wife).”

A royal source told the Daily Mail a day after Andrew’s arrest that Ferguson was not doing well mentally.

“I’ve been talking to some of her friends. She sounds in a bad way,” the source said. “She’s been telling people she is really suffering with her mental health and thinks everyone is out to get her.”

Ferguson, who has been divorced from Andrew since 1996, was stripped of her Duchess of York title amid the Epstein scandal back in October 2025.

A source told Page Six at the time that she will “always stand by Andrew and “will always have love for him.”
